I built this because I was the guy it’s for.
I’m Dan. The Odyssey Coach exists because I lived the problem it solves, for years, and none of the usual stuff got me out of it.
I started pulling away from people in high school. Nothing dramatic. I got busy, got in my head, and slowly stopped showing up. My friends reached out for a while, then they stopped. There were long stretches where I’d come home and not know what to do with how alone I felt.
College was supposed to fix that. I told myself I’d be different, more outgoing, more confident. What I actually did was perform. I built a version of myself I thought people would like and wore it around all day. It was exhausting, and it didn’t work. I got through four years without making one close friend.
After I graduated, I finally started working on it for real, and it wasn’t glamorous. I stopped performing and had one honest conversation with one friend, where I said the real stuff out loud instead of hiding it, and realized that vulnerability opened up opportunities to connect authentically. So I had another. Then more.
I’m still working on it. The old habits are right there, and I still catch myself pulling away when things get close. But that friendship changed something. I’d been honest with someone I trusted, and he didn’t judge me. He understood more than I expected, and for the first time in a long time, I felt less alone.
I spent years building AI that helped people practice hard conversations, so I know what this technology can do for the way people relate to each other. I also watched much of the industry use it to pull people further from real life: companions built to replace real connection or feeds designed to keep you scrolling. The loneliness epidemic kept getting worse, and most of the new technology seemed to be pulling people further into screens instead of helping them back toward each other.
So I built the opposite. The coach I wish I’d had back then: one that gets to know your whole story, gives you a real plan, gets you to actually go do things out in the world, and is still there to see how it went. Aimed at getting you a real life with real people, not at keeping you on an app.
I don’t have all the answers. But I lived this, I understand the technology, and I’m building the thing I needed. If any of it sounds like you, I built this for you too.
